I am a linguist, a teacher educator, and an activist.

I am a professor in the Bilingual Education and TESOL Programs at The City College of New York, and in the Linguistics Program at the Graduate Center, CUNY. I integrate scholarship, teaching, service, and activism in the areas of linguistics, education, multilingualism, immigration, and Palestinian justice. My scholarship aims to advance knowledge of language as a symbolic tool, and to support emergent bilingual students, their teachers, and their communities.
