I teach courses for pre-service and in-service teachers of emergent bilingual students, with the recognition that language is a key element in the racialization of minoritized groups. Through my courses, I hope that students learn to see language diversity with joy and wonder, and to gain new appreciation for their own languages and communities. I’m also part of two major grant-funded projects in support of equity and inclusion of immigrant students and families (CUNY-Initiative on Immigration and Education) and emergent bilingual students and their teachers (Building Secondary Educator and Academic Leadership, B-SEAL for Multilingual Learners).
